First off, I found out the best way to get accustomed to your tablet is to just play games. That way it's like training in disguise - less pain. There's no mind-numbing drawing lines over and over again for no apparent reason, and it's not as boring and repetitive. Plus, it's a great way to kill time and clear your mind from all the busy things of life. Those stupid don't-touch-the-edges-of-the-path work amazingly well at getting your hand accustomed to the tablet, and the shooter games with mouse control test reflexes and accuracy. I used to think that the 9" x 12" was a bit too big and awkward for drawing, as I had to make really large sweeping arm motions (more than usual with pencil and paper), but when i draw now that feeling isn't even there anymore. I can now make straight lines and curves and other fancy shapes without getting the noob hand-shake and going off the lines.

As I've read somewhere before a long time ago, video games improve mind reflexes and creativity. So everyone play more games! For tablet users, it's dual-purpose, what more do you want? D:

Second thing, I've had some personal problems which is making my life pretty screwy and schedules awry. My sleep schedule is pretty messed up and my internal clock is on the other side of the world. It's mostly a family problem, which is semi-resolved. Missing a week in class makes catch-up a damn lot harder than it appears to be, especially me, since I'm unaccustomed to missing school. Being a perfect asian, I've never missed school before, quite literally. >_<

I also missed the UCLA portfolio for DMA because I wasn't available to send it in. ._.

Fortunately, Universe Wars ended its round and I don't plan on going back and being addicted all over again. On a positive note, out of 30,000 people or so I was once placed #7 on the rankings, which wasn't bad at all. Never underestimate serious Asian gamers, they're quite scary.

Also, I'm no longer active on facebook because 1) i'm a nonconformist and 2) facebook is the new myspace. D:

I also dislike writing long journals similar to livejournal with emo and etc, but I digress.

Enough about thoughts...moving on to art.



I think this deserves a section on its own. Basically, the low down:

Over winter break I spent every single day in front of a computer drawing this. This means a two weeks and a few days, maybe 10 hours a day, sometimes longer, with Photoshop and tablet. D: This may be a sad way to use free time, but I think it was pretty rewarding (in retrospect), even though it felt like manual labor. i've learned quite a lot about circles in perspective.

I'm also a perfectionist (i admit it now), so that means I go back and check every single line of my pencilwork to make sure it's correct and in perspective. That's a lot of checking and double-checking.

Also, I'm coloring each clock one-by-one, and I did a few calculations. If I spent one minute on each clock (an impossibility; the longest one took four+hours because I'm slow), it would take over 8 hours just to color the clocks. That's how crazy it is. >_> Unfortunately, that means a lot of repetitive work and a whole lot of patience (which I have, fortunately).

So in the end, I only managed to finish one wall (minus the Big Ben), which has around 130+ clocks alone:


As you can guess, I got sick of it after a while (+issues mentioned above) so it's put on hold. I do promise that I'll finish it, to all of you who are bugging me. It's five hundred times harder than it looks. Seriously. And I should be getting paid to draw this thing (or equivalent repayment for lost time) D:
